Vision and purpose

The Family Preservation and Reunification Response (FPRR) is an innovative approach to providing evidence-based and integrated support to vulnerable children and families.

We deliver coaching to the Response agencies within the FPRR program to build confidence and competence in using evidence-informed practices.

FPRR helps prevent at-risk children from entering or re-entering care services and to reunify children safely with their families.

Together, FPRR agencies, the child protection system and professional services build robust connections to community, increasing the safety and stability of children.

History

Launched in 2020 and funded by the Department of Families, Fairness, and Housing, the Centre has been pivotal in delivering coaching to Team Leaders and practitioners within the FPRR, building confidence and competency in using evidence-based practices.

The Centre’s coaching enhances practitioner reflection in a safe learning environment, encouraging the exploration of new understandings and skills.

Impact

The Practice Lead team has observed significant shifts in the practices of FPRR team leaders and practitioners, resulting in enhanced confidence and proficiency in using evidence-informed skills.

Working in partnership with the DFFH, The Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA), Aboriginal community-controlled organisations (ACCOs), Community Services Organizations (CSOs), and the Centre for Evidence and Implementation (CEI), we are delighted by the positive feedback regarding the impact of coaching on practice, ultimately leading to improved outcomes for families.

The Response is an innovative approach providing children and families with the right support, when and where they need it and with the right team of people. It provides relational, evidence-informed and targeted support to children and families through a collaborative and coordinated partnership between child and family service providers and Child Protection.

The Roadmap for Reform

Roadmap for Reform: Strong Families, Safe Children is the DFFH's strategy to transform the child and family system. It focuses on earlier intervention and prevention to reduce vulnerability and equip children and young people to reach their full potential.
