At the Centre, we have the privilege of working alongside some truly exceptional leaders in the sector.
In November, we acknowledged one of our most beloved and influential leaders, Val Ayres Wearne, whose dedication to family services in Victoria has had a lasting impact on both professionals and families.
As part of our annual Family Services Symposium, we introduced a new tradition—The Acknowledgement of Service—to celebrate those whose contributions have shaped the way we support families and children. It is only fitting that Val is the first to receive this honour, as her influence and commitment to the sector are unparalleled.
The power of remaining committed
Val’s dedication to family services is rooted in a profound understanding of the complex challenges families face, particularly those navigating the most difficult of circumstances. With years of experience, Val has built a reputation for being knowledgeable, empathetic, and solutions-oriented. She has shown us all the power of remaining committed to the needs of families, working to help children stay with their families or reunite safely after separation. Her work ensures those who need it most are given the opportunity to heal and thrive.
Beyond her expertise in practice, Val has been a mentor and a guide to her colleagues. Her generosity with her time, knowledge, and support has supported many professionals grow in their careers. She has created a culture of empathy and excellence, ensuring practitioners are well-equipped to provide the highest quality services to families in need.
Val’s ability to remain calm and respectful in the face of adversity has allowed her to push for changes that improve outcomes for children and families. Her focus has always been clear: to create a better future for those who rely on our services.
Val has created a lasting legacy through her work, the lives she has touched, and the deep respect she has earned from colleagues and peers.
