Child Safe Standards
Ensuring every organisation providing services or facilities for children implements Child Safe Standards.
Last updated: 23 Nov 2024
Vision and purpose
We believe every child deserves to grow up in an environment free from abuse. Every organisation providing services or facilities for children is responsible for integrating Child Safe Standards into their daily practices.
Since 2015, the Centre has conducted Child Safe training sessions for various organisations, ranging from community housing providers to youth theatre groups, early childhood, kindergarten programs, and more, to ensure they establish and maintain robust systems to uphold the safety and protection of children.
History
As of 1 January 2023, significant changes have been enacted regarding overseeing the Child Safe Standards, including more substantial penalties for organisations failing to adhere to these standards.
Currently, the Commission for Children and Young People (CCYP) holds the authority to regulate all organisations mandated to comply with the Standards, working in conjunction with co-regulators (relevant authorities) to ensure compliance.
Regulators offer guidance and assistance to organisations to facilitate compliance with the standards. Additionally, they have the legal authority to hold organisations accountable should they fail to meet these standards.
